Swan Lake: A Concert in a Swimming Pool..
Swan Lake was a piece where Katy Dye and artist Sarah Short, directed four professional brass musicians to give a concert of Tchaikovsky's music from the ballet - Swan Lake, whilst submerged in the water of a swimming pool. We wanted to create this to upend ideas about where people go to take part in 'high' culture, such as ballet or opera. Swan Lake is a performance that explores questions relating to class, culture, 'high art', 'low art' and access. The piece was created in 2013. It took place at The Gorbals Leisure Centre, Glasgow, when Sarah and Katy were students at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
